The project begins
Screen Translate started with the goal of breaking down language barriers. Work on the first prototype began.
AI integration
Google ML Kit OCR and TensorFlow were integrated. The first beta shipped with support for 5 languages.
Language support expanded
Language support grew to 50, with full coverage of European, Asian and African languages through Cloud Vision OCR. Advanced security filters and sensitive-data protection were added.
Android 15 optimization
Android 15 compatibility, 16 KB page alignment and modern API support were added. Performance improved by 40%.
Chat Mode launch (v2.1.4)
Real-time, uninterrupted translation in WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Discord and 9+ other messaging apps through the Accessibility API. Automatic fallback across Gemini, Google Cloud and offline ML Kit.
Offline language pack management (v3.0.0)
Offline translation in 28 languages for ML Kit, with manual pack management. A thorough cleanup removed 5,800+ lines of code — 40% faster startup. Android 16 compatibility completed.
Premium engines + Travel Mode (v4.1.0)
DeepL, Claude, ChatGPT and Azure Translate added (Pro). Pixel-accurate recognition through Azure Vision OCR. The new Travel Mode: take a photo with the camera and get an instant AI translation plus a context note. The free trial was raised to 10.
Manga Mode + Manga OCR (v4.2.0)
The new Manga mode finds speech balloons, reads vertical Japanese and translates a whole page in a single request. Optional on-device Manga OCR engine (~119 MB, Japanese). Groq, the ultra-fast translation engine (Pro). A new AURSAL splash screen, server protection through Google Play Integrity and 16 KB page support. Minimum Android 7.0.
